Alison Pavier has over 20 years experience gained through senior management positions and consultancy roles in not-for-profit organisations. She combines a proven success in generating income from individuals, major donors, trusts, the corporate sector and the Lottery, for popular and niche causes with expertise in strategic planning, case for support development and new markets.

Following a Degree in English Literature at London University, Alison worked for a rapidly expanding niche retailer in a range of sales, marketing, training and management roles. She played a key role in the implementation of Tie Rack’s franchise expansion in the UK and then American expansion during a two-year posting to New York.

Back in London, Alison joined Piper Trust, a venture capital and management consultancy firm, specialising in retail start-ups, new market concepts and business models for expansion.
During six heavenly years at Save the Children, Alison joined a team of brilliant people who pioneered cause-related marketing and transferred major donor fundraising techniques from the Arts to a humanitarian charity. She led a team of thirty staff and a senior volunteer board chaired by HRH The Princess Royal, raising £4.3 million through a major donor appeal on a cost basis of 4.5% and £4.2 million through corporate fundraising on a cost basis of 20%.

In 1999, Alison became Director of Development at the British Library, responsible for setting up a long term fundraising strategy for corporate priorities as a shift from a curator-directed project fundraising model.

Voluntary income grew by 40% pa to achieve £1.3 million from a standing start and she directed a cultivation programme to establish the new Library building as a stylish meeting place for intellectuals.

Alison has a personal interest in education, the Arts, isolated and troubled families, justice and human rights. She is a Trustee of the Jessie May Trust, which provides palliative care at home for life-limited children.

Alison works with other fundraising professionals and researchers on consultancy projects and is a member of fundraising networks.
